If you're looking to get in shape without being intimidated by a bunch of enormous grunting meatheads and a gaggle of wafer-thin women sprinting for 2 hours on a treadmill, then this place is for you. I was one of those people who was intimidated by large chain gyms (and their shady contracts). I found Mass Fit sort of by accident walking around the neighborhood. Once I got started, I knew this place was different. One-on-one personal training is their thing. The trainers are awesome--they're funny, encouraging, and they always make sure that you do things correctly to prevent injury. The gym has all the equipment you would need, and it's never overcrowded. Mass Fit is truly a hidden gem. Swing by or email them to get started. You won't regret it, but your hamstrings might (in the best way). ~Sofia W.

The MASS Fitness trainers are awesome!! These guys really care about what they do and the services that they provide. When I work out here with or without a trainer I feel super comfortable and never self conscious. The space itself is great, it's bright, has all of the equipment I could possibly ever want, and is always clean. I have trained with Steve for almost 5 years now. He loves his work, he cares about his clients, and he does what's best for each one of them. He's helped me overcome injury, grow stronger, and I've been able to take what I've learned from him with me on the road in my touring job. MASS F.I.T. has changed my life in ways I did not think were possible. I started training with Steve 4 months ago. It was a big decision and commitment for me as I had joined gyms and hired a trainer in the past and had very little results. This time I would quickly see and physically feel would be different. By the 3rd session my posture was starting to dramatically change in ways I and my family were noticing. Ways Steve told me could change after my screening session. I could now stand straighter, taller and felt like my feet were more firmly on the ground when walking and standing. I had not felt unsteady on my feet, but now standing was dramatically different and I truly felt more grounded. I no longer experienced occasional back pain and found myself easily carrying 50 lbs of dog food up a flight of steps. Wow!!

Steve truly cares about his clients and provides guidance in lifestyle, nutrition, daily living habits in addition to excellent personal, individualized training. He taught me that making little changes on a daily basis adds up to major changes to ones life. I am so excited that I made the right decision to join MASS F.I.T. and make healthy changes in my life. MASS F.I.T. is the best gym! You have to check it out! I've been going to gyms my entire life and this is the first time I've developed a routine that has had a huge impact on my health and body.

The gym has tons of equipment and I'm never waiting in line. The space is clean and full of natural light which is really helpful if you work out in the AM as I do. All of the staff and trainers are friendly and easy to talk to if I have any questions about an exercise.

I've been going to this gym for four years now, 3-4 days a week, and training with Steve, the owner. Ive reached all of my weight loss goals and, more importantly, my strength and endurance has improved immensely.
I look forward to seeing Steve in the morning to work out; who can say that about their gym experience? He gives me advice on food and provides me routines that I can move through on my own when I come to the gym outside of our scheduled sessions.

MASS F.I.T. is by far the best gym I have ever been a part of. My fiancé and I are able to do work out sessions together which makes it fun and motivating! Not only are we getting healthy and fit but they make it fun!!! Our trainer Steve is the best! He is always making us laugh and keeps us motivated. He also is more than willing to give us work outs to continue doing on our own when we go into the gym on our off days. We truly love this place! I have always been intimidated by the gym and lifting weights but they make it so inviting. All the trainers are so wonderful and go out of their way to say hello. MASS fit is an excellent gym with an unbeatable location. The equipment is sufficient and has everything one would need. What sets it apart from the rest is the community atmosphere of energetic trainers and like-minded clients/members striving for a common goal of healthy sustainable body movement.
After years of working out in a gym trying to recover from an ACL/Meniscus surgery, taking advice from numerous physicians and therapists, pain was something I assumed I would have to live with for the rest of my life. The pain didn’t stop at my knee either; it began to migrate to my lower back and shoulders. I eventually started visiting a chiropractor twice a month after repeated injuries from improper dead-lifting. At that time I decided to give Steve at MASS fit a chance. Within weeks I noticed a major difference, it truly was a “Eureka moment”. Not only did my pain dissipate but I began to understand where it was generating from and how to prevent it from coming back. I am now armed with a knowledge of self-maintenance. I have been given recommendations about diet, vitamins, sleep positions, and footwear. It’s a lifestyle change that I can never go back on.
My biggest results are apparent when I’m not in the gym. Through proper muscle engagement everyday tasks like lifting up my kids, yard work, and shoveling snow are miniature expressions of my progress instead of dreadful pain triggers. My golf game is also exponentially better, more body rotation, more power, and way more distance.
Steve is much more than a trainer, he is a coach and friend who has opened my eyes to a world of pain free living and well being. Go get screened, embrace change and reap the benefits. ~Nathan K.

As someone that has been in out of physical therapy since I was in high school with sports injuries, I have seen a lot of top end physical therapist. I never thought I would find a gym with a staff of personal trainers that are not only humble, welcoming, and kind but also had the knowledge and science that matched many of the physical therapists I have had in the past. The trainers are also able to deliver that information in a way that allows the average person to not only physicalize what the trainer is asking of them but also understand why each exercise is important for their specific pain, goals and body type.

The facility is intimate yet roomy and constantly being improved. Every time you walk in there you know the owner, Steve is thinking of ways to improve the customer and member experience. There is so much care in what Steve does and that affects the way all the staff interact and train their clients.

Many people including myself walk around with minor chronic pain due to lifestyle or past injuries, over the past 5 months working with Mass F.I.T. Staff that pain has gone away and I feel myself getting stronger and living a more active life. ~Brendan T.

Steve at Mass Fit has been my trainer, torturer and inspiration for 6 years. His new space in Society Hill is welcoming , spacious and clean. As a professional dancer, my knee pain was so bad that I was fearful for my career. I hadn't been in a gym for 30 years before meeting Steve, but have now been working out with him twice a week for over two years (thanks to my girlfriend who also started using Mass FIT when she started having some knee problems). Steve took it nice and slow at first so I didn't get discouraged, but have "taken it to the next level" two or three times already . Just as importantly, he doesn't push my 60-year-old body (in my mind, I'm still 25) further than it needs to go, so I don't worry about the risk of injury. My goal is not weight loss, but have probably traded in a pound of fat for every pound of muscle I've gained. Further, as I split my time between Philadelphia and Florida, Steve and I have figured -- via Skype -- out how to keep it going when I'm Florida. Can't recommend Mass FIT enough. But don't go if you don't like to have fun...the guys are a hoot. ~Paul S.

I started training with Steve 4 years ago and he has been instrumental in transforming my body  into something i remember from high school.  Mass Fit is a great place to work out and train.  If Steve did not push me every session, I would never do the work myself! So Yep I’m writing a review, this is happening…and from someone who’s been in the customer service business their entire life this does not come lightly. We so very rarely write reviews but with that being said I absolutely had to share my wonderful experience with MASS FIT, the owner Steven Massimini and the entire MASS FIT team. It’s a wonderful gym and personal training experience that you need to know about.
I’ve never been a fitness person. My definition of working out was going to the gym doing the elliptical running on the treadmill seeing no results and leaving/giving up. It was the same cycle over and over, I’m not ashamed to admit it….I had Gymtimidation. Literally was so insecure. I didn’t know what I was doing, what I should be doing, or how to use half of the machines/weights in a gym.
My friend told me about her experience with MASS FIT and her results were the proof I needed that it was possible for me to get fit, healthy and strong.
I reached out to the owner Steve Massimini and let him know that I was interested in coming in. I told him that I was not only out of shape but that I had never been in shape! Lol, and I told him about my Gymtimidation Steven’s response was that’s perfect you’re a blank canvas and I’d love to help you in your journey!  About two months ago I started with MASS FIT and the results are amazing, I can’t believe that I didn’t do this sooner. Steven and the whole MASS FIT team truly have an extensive knowledge on the body how you’re supposed to move, what’s good for your individual body, how to work out therapy wise with injuries, how to make you stronger and healthier he really cares about getting you to a better place both physically and mentally. Which is unlike anything I’ve ever had from any other trainer or gym before, someone that actually cares.
I needed to give Steven Massamini and the MASS FIT Team a big shout out! What they’re doing over there in old city is absolutely amazing if you’re interested in getting fit and getting healthy you wont be disappointed with this gym. His business is growing by the minute, and obviously because it’s wonderful why wouldn’t it. He recently just opened up limited memberships to his gym so not only can you get a personal trainer but also now you can come in and work out with all the equipment and follow a color coordinated workout plan for different levels of fitness. Eliminating nervousness about not knowing what to do not doing the right thing or not having a successful gym day! Because there is nothing worse than taking hours out of your day and getting nothing accomplished.

Mass-Fit is like no other gym I’ve experienced in Philadelphia. I’ve been a member of several gyms in the city, and they are all filled with the same cookie cutter machines, overwhelming salesmen, and the inability to move from one area to the other without being creeped on. They aren’t interested in making money off of me and giving me a one size fits all work out. Steven Massimini, the owner, has developed an incredible and effective gym culture. Both my spine and my hip “mineralization” have improved. The spine by 4.5% , the hip not as much. My hip still in osteoporosis range but the spine well out of that range. I’m very excited about this, and I appreciate your coaching and support. Yay!!! ~Claudia V.

Since October 2012, I have been training with Steve as my personal trainer. As of today I am still training under him. Since October 2012 I have become more limber and have been able to increase my muscle mass, my flexibility has been improved tremendously, and I am able to do things that I never thought I could again. I am 74 years old and Steve has enabled me to enjoy my life fully by teaching me how to use my muscles and by concentrating on my trouble spots. When I look back at my first session it is hard to believe how much I can do now and how better I am feeling compared to 2012.I can recommend Steve whole heartedly. Let me just say I hate gyms and working out. I was hesitant when my neighbor referred me to Steve for at home personal training. That actually scared me more, nowhere to run! I decided I would try one session and then just tell him I really wasn’t interested in continuing (everyone wins, right?). Well, that plan failed! Steve has been training me twice a week for the last 13 months. He has helped me to drop a size in clothes, to eat healthier, and feel better altogether. While I do whine when he is here, I feel accomplished after he leaves! He makes training fun (I swear!). Steve is very knowledgeable about the body and has helped me reduce back pain with corrective exercises. I recommend Steve if you want to get off that couch and change yourself! – Jaime R.

Through Steve’s workouts and diet recommendations I have lost 60 lb’s of fat off of my body. I have gained mobility and can move without pain. I have seen more results and have been more active since we started training, the workouts never get stale and push to progress. – Harold G.

I have been training 3x per week with Steve since April 2012 and it has completely changed the way I work out. Our sessions are dynamic and never the same – we do everything from aerobic interval training to heavy weight lifting and the results have been exactly what I want: stronger, leaner muscle and an overall fit physique. I’ve been working out for years, making little progress and completely unaware that I was actually doing the exact opposite of what I needed. I knew nothing about correct form, and was actually hurting myself. I used machines that only cemented my bad form, while weakening important muscles I wanted to strengthen. I was lost in a world of weights I was too afraid to use. After a physical assessment and a few weeks of working with Steve, I began to learn all of the proper weight lifting techniques that would best strengthen the areas I needed most. I began to see and feel improvements I’ve never seen in all my years of what I THOUGHT was working out. I went from deadlifting 45 lbs to 135 lbs in 3 months. My bridge ups “butt muscles” went from 65 lbs to 205. The strength that I am continuously building feels unreal. I’m not jacked, I’m not some super fit fitness model, I’m your average 26 year old girl — but thanks to Steve, I’m becoming stronger with every session, and doing things I never once thought I could.” – Gabriella I.
